About Anna From a very early age Anna has been immersed in music, from Gilbert and Sullivan to Mozart. Her love of music took Anna to another of her passions, ballet, which she studied for 17 years. Anna began vocal training at the age of eighteen with well known Bass-Baritone John Dethick. After completing her A-Levels, Anna took a place at Huddersfield to study music. While still at school she won the Lamorna Prize.
During her time at college, she studied opera roles that were most suited to her voice; Pamina (Magic Flute), Despina (Cosi fan tutti), Gretel (Hansel and Gretel), Adele (Die Fledermaus, Zerlina (Don Giovanni) to name but a few. Also studied were oratorio works by Handel, Mozart, Haydn and pieces of baroque music and classical music. Four years ago she took a break from singing to have a family, and now studies singing with renowned soprano Jayne Carpenter. Anna has a high, light voice that copes equally well with coloratura and legato lines. She has an extensive and flexible repertoire, ranging from Mozart to musical theatre. She is re-establishing herself as a concert and recital singer and recently made her opera debut as Gretel in the highly successful Northern Chamber Orchestras production of Hansel and Gretel. Anna was also closely involved in the initial stages of setting up of Silk Opera and performed in their very well received debut production, Monkey Run, part of Macclesfield's recently revived Barnaby Festival. |
